Department of Applied Physics

Department of Applied Physics was established in 1925 under University of Calcutta for Post Graduate studies in Electrical Technology and allied sciences. Next year, in 2024, we will be commemorating a milestone - the 100th anniversary of our establishment! The centenary celebration of a department is a momentous occasion, marking a century of academic excellence and achievement.  It is a time to reflect on the department's rich history, honor its past accomplishments, and look ahead to a bright future. This milestone event is an opportunity to bring together current students, faculty, alumni, and community members to celebrate the department's rich legacy and continuing impact on the world.

Currently, this Department provides two Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) programs in Electrical Engineering and Instrumentation Engineering, as well as two Master of Technology (M.Tech) programs in Electrical Engineering with specializations in Smart Grid Systems and Advanced Control and Measurement Systems, and in Instrumentation and Control Engineering. Additionally, the Department offers two part-time Master of Technology (M.Tech) programs in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Electrical Power and in Instrumentation and Control Engineering. The Department places a significant emphasis on research, with the aim of producing cutting-edge results, and also offers Doctoral degrees in related fields.
